While Rory Mcilroy takes a week off to rejoice in its long sought-after Masters victory, the rest of the golf is preparing for the season’s fifth signature event, RBC Heritage, which begins Thursday on Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, SC
Fifty -six players who competed at Masters last week made the short trip to South Carolina to fight for her share of a handbag of $ 20 million. That includes the man Mcilroy defeated in a playoffs, Justin Rose. The Englishman has been gracious in defeat and knew what Mcilroy completed his career Grand Slam meant to the golf world.
“I think it’s definitely been one to process a little,” Rose said. “It happened a lot on Sunday. It was obviously a huge opportunity for me at the end.
“But to give myself that opportunity, I played some incredible golf. It was one of the most fun days I’ve ever had on the golf course.”
The ongoing finish catapulted steps to 12th place in the official world golfer and ninth in the FedEx Cup race, impressive at their own merits for a 44-year-old.
“The reason I work hard enough to do that is because I still have the belief that it is possible” for him to win on the tour, Rose said. “I think this is why these weeks are important to me still is that it just confirms that it is still possible.”
In 2024, Scottie Scheffler held many of these opportunities to win titles, including the inheritance immediately after he won his other green jacket. When he comes from a fourth place, Scheffler still chases his first title in 2025 but feels no pressure.
“I’m just looking forward to a relaxing week, enjoy some competition,” Scheffler said. “For us it’s a simple week and it’s fun. You get to bring your family. I don’t really know how to work out other than it’s a lot of fun.”
Scheffler went 19 during four rounds last year to defeat Sahith Theegala with three shots.
The course was extended slightly to 7 213 meters last year, but it is known long and wide as a “second shot golf course”, which means one where iron and approach is of the utmost importance.
“It’s a really good test of ball striking, this golf course,” Scheffler said. “You have to bend the both ways. You have to hit pictures. We will get some wind. You have to control spin, check the track.”
Eight of the 10 and 43 of the 50 best players in the world ranking will compete, including Swedish star Ludvig Aberg and Russell Henley, who won previous signature events this season (Genesis Invitational and Arnold Palmer Invitational).
Jordan Spieth’s last victory came on 2022 RBC Heritage in a playoffs against Patrick Cantlay. He is in the field at a sponsors’ exception.
Harbor Town Golf Links will be closed for a restoration after the end of the tournament.
