The Los Angeles Golf Club handed over the Bay Golf Club its first loss in TGL action and secured No. 1 seed in the playoffs by dominating singles to collect for a 5-3 victory on Monday.

Leading 3-1, Bay GC “threw the hammer” early in PAR-5 10th hole, before Australian my Woo Lee hit a shot in the water when he played against Tommy Fleetwood in England.

Lagc’s Sahith Theegala threw the hammer back against Lee on his team chamber and wanted to increase the hole’s point value again. Bay GC declined and admitted the two points to LAGC to bind the match.

Theegala then beat Wyndham Clark with a chip-in Birdie on No. 12 to put LAGC (4-0-1, 9 points) in front. Fleetwood met his own chip-in on the next hole and halved No. 13 with Lee.

Theegala beat Clark again on No. 15 for good measurements to give the final margin.

After the match, Theegala explained why he did a party that is known to be Lee’s signature movement when he makes a chip-in, “Search Dr. Chipinski.” Theegala said he knew it could postpone the other team.

“If you will do it, you have to be ready to take it too, so we will feed it back,” Theegala said. “It’s just the fun of it. It’s another thing that TGL type allows us to do. It’s a bit difficult to do it every week to week on the PGA tour. It was just everything in fun.”

Lee had made Putts at 13 and 8 feet at the third and fourth holes to get Bay GC (4-1-0, 8 points) his first two points in the match.

The third member of the Bay GC who competed on Monday, Shane Lowry in Ireland, said he was there to care a lot about the success of his team in the newly formed league.

“I think about something, it can be a blessing in disguise entering the playoffs,” Lowry said. “It may be a bit of a kick in the back that we need, and we can get down our heads and focus a little better there.”
