There is little chance that Las Vegas will be able to match the financial success this year that the city saw a year ago when it hosted its first Super Bowl.
And other circumstances can record how many people arrive this weekend for a good time when New Orleans switch up to host the Super Bowl 59 two time zones away on Sunday.
Kansas City Chiefs meets the Philadelphia Eagles in an re -match from two years ago. Chiefs, who is now trying to win an outstanding third straight National Football League championship, created for a potential “three-turf” when they won the big game in Las Vegas last year.
A survey of hotel room prices conducted by Review journal Tuesday indicates that demand is well below what it was in early 2024 when southern Nevada adapted to host what was undoubtedly the biggest special event in the city’s history.
While the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority does not plan to project the number of visitors that the city will see and how much they will spend until later this week the hotel price values give a talking picture of how different this year is from previous years.
Review-Journal calculated averages based on published prices from Hotels.com. They do not include taxes or resort fees that can be as high as $ 50 per night.
The survey was on average room prices for a Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, February 7-9 in advance for Super Bowl Sunday.
Lower average prices
The survey found an average interest rate of $ 157.75 per night, more than $ 100 per night less than it was a year ago and about $ 40 per night less than the 12-month average daily room interest rate for 2024.
In 2024-up to the Super Bowl, Review-Journal conducted three surveys: three weeks, two weeks and one week before the match. Demand began extremely strong in mid -January when the average speed was $ 443.84 per night. A week later it had dipped to $ 403.09 per night and week before the match, $ 288.82.
Unlike last year, there are several strip properties that offer rooms for less than $ 100 per night. They include MGM Grand ($ 99), Sahara ($ 86), Linq ($ 82), Treasure Island ($ 80), Luxor ($ 75), Harrah’s Las Vegas ($ 74), Flamingo ($ 69), Strat ( $ 54) and Circus Circus ($ 32).
Some of the usual advanced resorts are still higher than the rest, but nowhere close to prices that close at $ 1,000 per night or more as they were last year. Among them: Wynn and Encore Las Vegas ($ 279), Bellagio ($ 260), The Venetian ($ 213), Palazzo ($ 258), Fontainebleau Las Vegas ($ 244), Aria ($ 225) and Caesars Palace ($ 169).
A separate survey of 13 central Las Vegas properties revealed an average price of $ 139.92 per night, with about $ 189), Central Grand ($ 171), El Cortez ($ 133), Plaza ($ 102) and D ($ 99) Among petitions.
‘World -class viewing’
Amanda Bellarmino, assistant professor at UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, said she expects Las Vegas to continue to be a popular Super Bowl show destination, even though the city is not worth the game this year.
“We have been a destination for Super Bowl for decades due to world-class display that we provide for our guests,” she said in an email. “For several years, Super Bowl was busy because it gave the fans the opportunity to invest in the game as there were limited markets with legalized sports games. Even with legalization of sports games across the country and the availability of investing from a mobile phone, Super Bowl and other events such as March Madness (the annual NCAA Championship College Basketball Tournament) still attracts fans to Las Vegas because of our unmatched ability to create a show parties. “
Before LVCVA’s projection, Bellarmino said that she believes that Las Vegas will see a higher number than 2022 and 2023.
“Although we will obviously not see the increased revenues from the shoulder date that we had last year or the excitement to host the event, I think it is reasonable to assume that we will achieve little growth during 2022 and 2023,” she said .
The reason: People still long for the social aspect of gathering with a group to watch.
“For Super Bowl, fans have the ability to experience the game on big screens with world -class food and a variety of beverage options that are difficult to match in a private home,” she said. “In addition, guests can enjoy everything Vegas has to offer before and after the match, all without remediation for the guests. For Mars Madness, we offer the opportunity to see several games at once. Consumers also have the ability to go cash in their winning tickets after the game is ready. “
While fires in southern California-las Vega’s largest market with about a third of visitors who come from there-are still fresh in the minds of potential visitors, the jury is still out on whether potential tourists from there will stay home or get away for Super Bowl.
There has also been an increase in dissemination on social media about the rapid climbing costs for a Las Vegas visit with higher prices for entertainment, food, gasoline and costs that many resorts for parking and resort fees.
In a post about X in response to a recent review journal story about President Donald Trump’s proposed customs against Canada, @dntchase wrote: “I used to go to Vegas 2-3 times a year at a minimum, but ended because of all nickel and dimming. The last straw was casinos that loaded $ 12 for a bud light and the increased parking prices. Parking should be included if the person lives in the hotel. “
Some resorts offer free parking to hotel guests, but others do not.
