Brandon Hagel had two goals and two assists when Tampa Bay Lightning snapped Detroit’s seven-game winning line with a 6-3 victory on Saturday.
Dylan Duke, who played for the University of Michigan last season, made in his NHL debut for Lightning. He was called from Syracuse from the American Hockey League on Friday.
Erik Cernak had one goal and two assists. Brayden Point scored its 30th goal of the season and Nick Paul added a goal. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 34 shots for Lightning, which is 4-0-1 in his last five matches.
Nikita Kucherov had three assists to bring their career points a total of 955 and passed Martin St. Louis for the second most in Lightning-franchise history behind Steven Stamkos which has 1,137 points.
Red Wings’ Vladimir Tarasenko scored his 300th career goal during the first period. Alex Debrincat had one goal and two assists. Patrick Kane also scored.
Detroit’s starting destination, Alex Lyon, was removed after allowing two goals on three shots during the first 2:56. His replacement, Cam Talbot, made 11 rescues.
The flash led 4-2 after a wild first period.
Hagel scored his 25th goal at 1:28. His shot from the left side bounced by Lyon’s catching glove and rolled into the net. Kucherov and Cernak were credited with assists.
Cernak’s goal, which led to Lyon’s removal, came on a shot from just inside the blue line. Kucherov and Ryan McDonagh noted the assist.
Tarasenko’s milestone target came halfway through the period. He scored from the track from a Moritz Seider flow. Debrincat had the second assistant.
Point answered just over two minutes later and lifted a shot over Talbot’s left shoulder.
Paul made a break with 4:49 left in the period to give Tampa Bay a three-goal lead. Hagel and Cernak were credited with the assistants.
Kane responded with a Power Play goal after Kucherov was punished for stumbling. Debrincat set Kane’s one-hour.
The second period was silent until DeBrincat made 5:31 left. He made a steal in the lightning zone and beat Vasilevskiy on the glove.
Duke made 4:10 of the third and reversed a recovery past Talbot. Hagel added an empty net.
