San Diego – Ludvig Aberg feels much better about San Diego than the last time he was here.

The world’s sixth ranked golfer, who was so sick three weeks ago under Farmers Insurance openly on Torrey Pines Golf Course that he lost almost 10 kilos, made four birds in the last six holes on Sunday to rally for a one-shot victory over Maverick McNealy on Genesis Invitational.

Aberg put in the victory with a Birdie putt from 6 feet, 9 inches on the last hole PAR-5 and celebrated with a fist. About half an hour earlier, McNealy missed a 15-foot birdie attempt at the same hole.

With a 6-under 66 on Sunday, Aberg ended 72 holes in 12-under 276 on Torrey Pine’s demanding South Course, which hosted Genesis after fire fires burned within a few blocks from the tournament’s usual home on Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisad, about 125 mile north of San Diego.

It was the second career win on the PGA tour for 25-year-old Aberg, who became a professional in June 2023 after an outstanding amateur career. Aberg won the RSM classic that year and then ended the second three times in 2024, including at Masters.

Last year’s RSM marked the only previous Tour victory for McNealy, who hoped to accept the trophy here from tournament Tiger Woods, a colleague Stanford University -alumnus. McNealy shot an 8-under 64, the best round of the tournament, but after making nine birds in his first 13 holes, he played the last five holes in 1 over.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who shot a 76 on Saturday to fall into a draw for eighths, was 10 shots better Sunday and finished at 9 under, bound for third with third round leader Patrick Rodgers (71 on Sunday).

Genesis is one of eight signature events on the PGA tour, with limited fields and additional handbag money and FedEx Cup points. Aberg earned $ 4 million from $ 20 million handbag.
