Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves Guide Lakers Past Spurs

Luka Doncic had 21 points, 14 assists and nine returns, Austin Reaves added 30 points and Los Angeles Lakers extended his home-winning line to eight matches with a victory 125-109 over San Antonio Spurs on Monday.

Jordan Goodwin and Dorian Finney Smith each made a 15 point and Dalton Knecht had 13 for Lakers (42-25), who was without Lebron James (groin) for the fifth game in a row and Rui Hachimura (knee) for the 10th straight competition. Jaxson Hayes finished with nine points and 11 returns.

Los Angeles has tied to fourth place in the Western Conference and has won back-to-back victories since returning from a 0-4 road trip.

Stephon Castle scored 23 points and took eight returns and Devin Vassell had 17 points and eight boards for Spurs, which lost for the fifth time in the last seven games. San Antonio is without Victor Wembanyama (Axel) and De’aaron Fox (finger) for the rest of the season.

Jeremy Sochan scored 15 points and Kelson Johnson had 11 for Spurs (28-29). The Monday competition was re -planned after the planned January 11 game in Los Angeles was postponed due to deadly fire fires.

Lakers beat 9-2 in the beginning before taking responsibility. Los Angeles had a lead of 32-22 after a block because Doncic had 12 points and was 7-for-7 at the free throw line.

Lakers built their advantage to 65-51 at half time by shooting 52.5 percent. Doncic had 16 points in half, while Los Angeles had only two sales.

The hosts withdrew with a 21-6 run during the third quarter to take a 28-point lead and were up 94-75 into the fourth.

The spurs bridged the third and fourth quarter with a 15-0 driving to pull within 94-81 with 11:19 left on a 3-pointer from Julian Champagnie. Reaves then went on a personal 5-0 driving to set up the Lakers with 18 with 10:22 on the clock.

Tempers flared with 6:27 and Los Angeles held a lead of 107-93 when Lakers ‘Jarred Vanderbilt and Spurs’ Sochan got a foresting match. Both were thrown out after they received warring technical fouls.

Reaves reached 30 points for the sixth time this season on a layout with 2:30 left to give Los Angeles a 120-102 advantage.
