New York Mets signed All-Star First Baseman Pete Alonso on Wednesday to a two-year contract with a player option for 2026.
Terms were not revealed in the team’s announcement, but several media reports on February 5, Alonso had agreed to a two -year, $ 54 million agreement. Alonso, 30, will earn $ 30 million this season (including a $ 10 million signing bonus), then will have a player option worth $ 24 million for 2026, according to the reports.
The New York Post and the United States today reported that Alonso rejected a three -year offer from Mets before accepting the two -year contract. USA Today reported that the deal was worth $ 71 million.

Alonso is ranked as third in franchise history with 226 Homers, behind David Wright (242) and Darryl Strawberry (252). Since Alonso’s debut in 2019, only New York Yankees Aaron judge has met more home purchases (232). Alonso leads Majors with 586 RBI since his debut.
He comes from his fourth All-Star season in six large league campaigns (all with Mets), but his power number was down in 2024. While he sluggish a career pile of 31 doubles, he ended with 34 homers and 88 RBI while he beat .240 with one .329-base percentage and .459 sluggish percentage in playing all 162 matches. He added four home races and 10 RBI while he went 12-for-44 (.273) in the 13 playoffs when Mets reached the National League Championship Series.
Alonso is the first player in MET’s history to have five seasons with 30 or more home races.
“Pete is a big hit and one of the league’s elite power threat,” Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said in the publication. “I am proud that we reached an agreement, and I look forward to seeing Pete helping to anchor our range.”
He returns to a METS program list that was reinforced by the free agent the arrival of excursion Juan Soto on a record $ 15-year, $ 765 million.
