Concierge Desk, a Las Vegas Hotel-Kasino-Equality for decades, seems to be on its way to extinction. MGM Resorts International confirmed Saturday that personal concierge services will be closed on most of its strip locations.
According to an email issued by a business representative, effective Monday shoes are to close at MGM Grand, The Signature, New York-New York, Mandalay Bay, Park MGM and VDara. There are no changes in the operations at Aria Resort & Casino, Bellagio Hotel & Casino and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Concierge calls to MGM resorts will be routed to Aria and Bellagio. Luxor cut its concierge desktop years ago.
MGM Resorts reports that “about 30” employees lose their jobs as a result of what the company refers to “efficiency.” These displaced are offered positions elsewhere in the company or provided with transition support.
MGM representatives say that the cuts are to meet “developing guest preferences”, with the demand for personal services that decrease. Guests who seek such help more often use digital self -service options.
In March, MGM Resort’s co -workers and Bell Services staff at Excalibur, which is located over the strip from the incoming athletics arena on the former Tropicana website. The company claims that these are not included in the company’s budget cuts, a widespread termination initiative or something that indicates financial problems.
Instead, the company claims that it is to respond to industry trends to better serve guests.
Those in the field have another while. Southern Nevada Hotel Concierge Association President Mildred Schneidman Soto said about the development, “honestly, it’s devastating.”
“Several members have been part of this organization and desk from the first day,” Schneidman Soto said. “These are professionals who live and breathe into our city and society. I really hope is temporary … everything is so shocking.”
