2025 Miami Open is in progress, and Wednesday’s game contained the lower half of the draw and played its round with 128 matches.
There were no seeds in action because they all got a village, but some interesting matches were still played. There will be no Djokovic vs Medjedovic in round 2 after Rinky Hijikata arranged a comeback from a division into the crucial set to upset the promising young Serb.
Nick Kyrgios, who returned via a protected ranking after a long injury, delivered a dramatic three-set victory to bag his first victory in two years when he took out Mackie McDonald 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Gael Monfils also gathered another impressive win and took out last year’s quarter finalist, Fabian Marozsan, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

We move monphils

Gael Monfils gathered another impressive on Wednesday when he became the second oldest man who held a victory at the ATP Masters 1000 event and beat only the legendary Jimmy Connors.
The Frenchman is 12-4 so far in 2025 but was a small sub-dog when he met last year’s quarter finalist Fabian Marozsan, but in typical Monfil’s manic style he came through in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 thriller.
I met a few different angles and showed that I could run and predict. I made it hard [for him]. I beat with a little more depth in my pictures and didn’t let him dictate and I think I did well. Monfils on his victory in Miami.
Kyrgios gets a comeback to win

Nick Kyrgios is back in the winner’s circle for the first time since 2022. Aussie has had 18 months of injuries, and he split past the American Qualifier Mackenzie McDonald 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
After retiring in his Indian well opener earlier this month, there were more question marks around his wrist, and Rust was clear. McDonald is not the kind of guy you want to play when you are short on matches because he is a big ball chapter, so it was a nervous meeting, but Kyrgios found his track on serving and landed 14 aces to set up a 2nd round against Karen Khachanov.
It has been a long journey. Even to just get to the starting line with matches and be afraid to just finish them … but getting off and getting a win, feeling that I belong again, is quite special. How my wrist has drawn up in the last six months has not been good. Having a victory against Mackie before giving me experience to pull from, but he is so tricky, he definitely caught me. I went to court and I was not used to that ball speed again. Kyrgios on its first victory in 2025.
Other matches of notes

Alexander Bublik has tested a new racket, and it seems to have helped him crack out the outdoor code 2025 and nabbed his first victory at the tour level this year with a nice 6-3, 6-4 Takedown in Sebastian Baez.
Elsewhere, former Miami Open semi-finalist David Goffin showed that he is still a game, took out Aleksandar Vukic and fought back from a set to pass a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory. He is facing Alcaraz in round 2.
Rinky Hijikata pulled off Gutsy 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 upset over Hamad Medjedovic. Aussie scrapped through a roller coaster three-sets and set up a second round with Novak Djokovic.
