MLB Over/Under Best Bet: Detroit Tigers vs. Seattle Mariners, April 1

Oof, gross conversation last night at Emerson Hancock. But it will not deter us from staying in the Pacific for the middle matchup of this three-game set between the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners.

Much more proven starters will be at Haugen for this, with Logan Gilbert who receives the ball to the home team after a sterling performance in his first assignment for a career opening day. In that deal, Gilbert suffocated completely athletics on his way to hacking seven shut -off rounds and knocks out eight. He only spread a couple of hits as well.

To me, this is an obvious sign that Gilbert is based on his first career All-Star campaign a year ago, one who also saw him being in sixth place in the American League Cy Young Award vote.

If the iron will consistently hit hot for Gilbert, it is during the first half of the campaign – where he has always been significantly better during each of his four years in Majors.

Throughout his time as a large Leaguer, the 27-year-old has registered a 26-15 record to go with a 3.07 era, 0.98 Whip and .211 Slag average against 68 starts before the midsummer classic. After that, however, he is 15-15 with a 4.26 era, 1.16 Whip and .244 BAA in 54 starts.

It was real, Detroit’s crime performed pretty well last night and plated a nine place for the evening. But most of that injury came in the first round from the said Hancock, and they will have a much bigger challenge opposite the sailors’ ace.

Casey Mize will meet Gilbert, and although he may not be almost as proven as his equivalent, it should not deny that the previous No. 1 overall draft has shown the production of a successful top-half-rotation party.

However, the problem is that came four years ago in Mize’s only full year with a normal season at a larger league level. During the 2021 season, the Auburn product dropped a very respectable 3.71 era and 1.14 Whip.

Unfortunately, Mize would soon become a victim of Tommy John operation, not to mention a subsequent back surgery, and has not really been able to get its full foot back – until now.

So is the outbreak going on?

I really think so.

Mize showed a very impressive spring and showed two new variants of his controls that he developed as he worked on his craft at Driveline Baseball during the low season. He also throws harder now and designed a noticeably higher Whiff interest rate through February and March.

The tools are in place for him to succeed at this level and, as important as everything, he is completely healthy. Mize also seems to roll with a chip on the shoulder after Tigers curious left him from the mail season list in favor of Keider Montero. Come on!

Which has already been highlighted a couple of times in this column, the sailors still leave something to be desired at the plate. This is the right place – and mostly a pitcher -park – for Mize to show off what he has now.
