Nationals hit phillies to avoid series sweeps

Josh Bell met a three-run Homer, Nathaniel Lowe added a two-run shot, and Washington Nationals beat the visiting Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 on Sunday to avoid a three-game-sweep.

Mitchell Parker (1-0) gave up seven hits with two walks and five strikes over 6 1/3 speechless innings.

Phillies beat 5-0 in the ninth round before the citizens Reliever Brad Lord loaded the bases without recording one out in their Major League debut. After Lord was replaced by Kyle Finnegan, a drive was given on Rafael Marchan’s foundation.

Finnegan retired the next two battles for his first rescue.

Lowe had three hits and Paul Dejong had two doubles among his three hits for Washington, who only put a runner on the base in the first three rounds against the Phillies starter Aaron Nola (0-1).

Nationals broke through with two outs in the fourth when Bell came to the plate after Keibert Ruiz was hit by a pitch and Lowe hit a line drive to the right field.

Bell was hitless in his first 10 bats this season before loosening at Nola’s first pitch for a three-field in the midfield.

Nationals put to their leadership with one out in the sixth round. Ruiz singled and Lowe accompanied a two-run homer to the midfield. The 421-foot blast was Lowe’s second Homer this season.

Nola gave up five runs on six hits over 5 1/3 rounds. He knocked out eight strokes without walking while throwing 95 seats.

After Philadelphia put two runners with one out in the seventh round, Jose A. replaced Ferrer Parker and met Kyle Schwarber with a pitch to charge the bases. Washington escaped undamaged when Alec Bohm founded in a double game.

Philadelphia was held for eight singles and went 0-for-9 with runners in score mode.

National right -field Dylan Crews knocked out three times and has found eight times in a row.

The Phillies played without Catcher JT Realmuto (Bruised Left Foot) and card stop third Turner (back spasms), both of which are listed as daily.
