Marine coach Ed Decellis announced his pension on Wednesday after training 426 matches for 14 seasons at the academy.

Dchellis, 66, surpassed Ben Carnevale (417) for most games that were trained at school earlier this season. He went to the Navy 196-230, including 15-19 this season.

“It has been a great honor to benefit from Naval Academy and I feel very happy to have had the opportunity to train so many exceptional young men,” Dhekellis said in the news message. “I want to thank (Athletic Director) Chet Gladchuk for giving me that opportunity 14 years ago and for his support and extraordinary leadership during my service.

“Naval Academy represents a set of timeless values that form the basis for our nation. I am proud to have played a small role in promoting these values through sports. I owe a debt debt to all players who placed their confidence in me and to the talented coaches and other employees who worked with me to help each of our players “

Dchellis also trained East Tennessee State (1996-2003) and Penn State (2003-2011) before this stint at Navy. Both of these schools did the NCAA tournament during their final season as coach. In 2009 he guided Penn State to the NIT title.

Overall, Dchellis had a record of 415-461 and topped 100 wins at each of the schools he trained.

Dhekellis streak in 29 seasons in a row as head coach is the sixth longest in the NCAA Division I story, trailing Rick Barnes (38 seasons), Dana Altman (36), Bill Self (32), Tom Izzo (30) and Steve Alford (30).

Associated coach Jon Perry was appointed interim coach. Navy said it will do a national search for a new coach.
