Brandon Montour had two goals and two assists, and he made the winner on an interruption four seconds to overtime when the Seattle Kraken gathered for a 5-4 victory against the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.
Jani Nyman scored in his NHL debut, Eeli Tolvanen and Matty Beniers also spoke and Jordan Eberle added three assists for the Kraken. Joey Daccord made 21 saves when Seattle won for the second time in three matches.
Juraj Slafkovsky did twice for Montreal, and Patrik Laine, who missed the two previous matches with the flu, had a goal and an assist. Alex Newhook also counted, Lane Hutson and Captain Nick Suzuki had two assists each and Jakub Dobes stopped 30 out of 35 shots.
Seattle scored the game’s first two goals, fell behind 4-2 and then tied it with a couple of power-play goals during the last 10 minutes of regulation. The Canadiens, who were 6-1-1 in its previous eight matches, missed a chance to move to a tie with Columbus for the second and final Joints of the Eastern Conference.
Red Wings 7, Sabers 3
Patrick Kane stacked up two goals and three assists and host Detroit snapped a six-match losing line with a victory over Buffalo.
Marco Kasper delivered two goals and one assist, while Alex Debrincat had a goal and three assists for the red wings. Vladimir Tarasenko and Moritz Seider also did, and Dylan Larkin added three assists. Petr Mrazek, who made his first start since he was acquired from Chicago, made 23 rescues.
Tage Thompson and Zach Benson each had a goal and an assist for Buffalo, and Josh Norris did too. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 22 shots.
Canucks 4, Flames 3 (SO)
Conor Garland’s goal dressed a shootout in a comeback victory for Vancouver over host Calgary.
Elias Pettersson had a goal and an assist in regulation and also made Vancouver first goals in shootout. Pius Suter and Jake Debruss added goal and Kevin Lankinen made 20 rescues through overtime and three out of four in shootout when Canucks snapped a two-game ski.
Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice and then noted Flame’s only goal in shootout. Nazem Kadri gathered a goal and an assist, and Dustin Wolf stopped 28 shots. Mackenzie Weegar recorded a couple of assists.
Utah 3, Ducks 2
Dylan Guenther had a goal and an assist for the Utah Hockey Club in a victory against Anaheim in Salt Lake City.
Jack McBain and Alexander Kerfoot also did and Karel Vejmelka made 19 rescues for Utah, who drove his score to four matches (2-0-2) and moved within two points from the second Wild-Card place in the Western Conference.
Alex Killorn and Mason Mctavish scored and wanted to make 36 rescues in their team debut for Ducks, which is 1-4-0 in the last five matches.
