BBC Radio 6 Music has this week announced its new daytime schedule, which will see broadcaster Nick Grimshaw take over from Lauren Laverne to become the channels latest Breakfast Show presenter.
Laverne will move to mid-morning, where she will present a new weekday programme, which will have regular features carried over from her breakfast show, including Desert Island Disco and People’s Playlist, as well as live sessions.
Lauren and Nick’s new shows start in February. DJ Nemone will present the breakfast show in between, starting Monday 13 January.
Elsewhere, the station also announced that Mary Anne Hobbs will be taking a sabbatical and will return to 6 Music later this spring with a new show.
On Thursday (January 9), Laverne said: “As listeners know, I had a really tough 2024 and was worried at times that I wouldn’t be able to return to the station I love so much. It’s been a great honor (and so much fun) to be hosted the breakfast show for six wonderful years, but it’s time to pass on the baton and set my alarm a little later.
“During my recovery I learned about the power of music, the people you surround yourself with and the emotional support and joy that radio can bring. I am so grateful to be able to get back to doing what I love and sharing these things with our brilliant listeners every day.”
Samantha Moy, Head of BBC Radio 6 Music, added: “It’s really wonderful news that Lauren is feeling better and ready to return to 6 Music. Like our listeners, we’ve missed her hugely and we can’t wait to have her in the air again.”
Commenting on his new role at the station, Grimshaw said: “I’ve had the best four months covering Lauren and I can’t wait to keep waking you up on 6 Music. I want to say thank you to the listeners who have made me feel so welcome over the last few months and to Lauren’s amazing team, who have been instrumental in making me so happy on air. 6 Music is a precious place, a station I love, I’m honestly honored to be asked to work there and can’t. wait with to continue delivering the best new music from the world’s most interesting artists.”
