Milan Momcilovic scored 17 points and scored 4 out of 7 attempts beyond the arch, and no. 9 Iowa State published an 84-67 victory over No. 22 Arizona in a Big 12 conference matchup Saturday evening in Ames, Iowa.
Tamin Lipsey finished with 15 points and eight assists for Iowa State (22-7, 12-6), which snapped a two-game ski. Curtis Jones and Nate Heise got 12 points per piece.
Jaden Bradley scored 18 points to lead Arizona (19-10, 13-5). KJ Lewis got 13 points and took six returns, and Caleb Love finished with 10 points, missing 13 out of 15 shots from the field.
Iowa State shot 50 percent (27 out of 54) from the field and 52.4 percent (11 out of 21) from 3-point intervals. Arizona shot only 33.3 percent (19 out of 57) in total and 18.2 percent (4 out of 22) beyond the arch.
The cyclones increased their lead to 24 halfway through the second half. Lipsey stole the ball and pressed it to Brandton Chatfield, who pulled it to Jones for a layout for a 62-38 lead with 12:38 left.
Arizona went on an 8-0 driving to pull within 67-53 with 7:18 left. Trey Townsend made a jump shot, Lewis had two arrangements and Bradley made a couple of free throw.
Wildcats pulled within 10 when Carter Bryant noted a steal and made a jump shot at the other end of the court with 3:22 left. The sequence cut the Iowa State’s lead to 71-61.
Cyclones finished the game on a 6-0 run during the final 1:41.
Iowa State led 43-30 at half.
The cyclones jumped to a 23-11 advantage with 8:41 left during the first half. Momcilovic finished early driving with a 3-point from an assist from Lipsey.
Momcilovic beat down two more 3-point in the next two minutes to increase the Iowa State advantage to 32-17.
Arizona chipped away at the deficit with a 6-0 run late in half. Bryant and Henri Vatesaar made two free throw per piece and Lewis ended it with a layout.
