Reigning NWSL MVP Temwa Chawinga scored goals in the second minute for host Kansas City-Ström, who published a 3-1 victory over Portland Thorns in both teams season openers on Saturday.
Chawinga, who led NWSL with 20 goals in 2024, came behind the defense and took a chipped pass from Debinha before delivering a right -footed shot from the center of the box to the lower right corner.
Michelle Cooper (23rd minute) and Debinha (36 minutes) each set a goal before half time for Kansas City, which received two rescues from Lorena.
For the thorns, Olivia Moultrie scored the game’s only goal for the second half in the 49th minute to trim the deficit to 3-1. Mackenzie Arnold made three rescues in the loss.
Seattle Reign 1, Gotham FC 1
Two minutes after she came in as a replacement, Emeri Adames made the 71st minute to help the host government earn a draw against Gotham in both teams season openers.
Adames’ left-footed shots from close up to the lower left corner avoids Gotham goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. Claudia Dickey made three rescues for the government, which had seven shot attempts but made her only shot on goal.
Gabi Portilho opened the score early in the second half and scored the 47th minute after a corner park on a right -footed shot from the middle of the box. Portilho placed the shot in the lower left corner of the net.
Racing Louisville 1, North Carolina Courage 1
Down through a goal in the second half, the visiting fashion got a draw against Louisville when Riley Jackson did in the 69th minute in the season opener for both clubs.
On the binding goal, the fashion’s Ryan Williams delivered a shot that Louisville goalkeeper Katie Lund saved, but Rebound came right to Jackson, who leveled the match. Casey Murphy noted six rescues for fashion.
Outside a corner park in the 13th minute, Louisville’s Emma Sears made a feed from Arin Wright to open the score. Lund finished with five rescues.
Utah Royals FC 1, Bay FC 1
In the season opener for both clubs, Royals and Bay FC each made a first half on their way to a draw in Sandy, Utah.
Royal’s goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn, who had four rescues, delivered a pass to Bianca ST-Georges, who came behind the defense to open the score in the 12th minute.
On a set piece in the 44th minute, Bay FC’s Kiki Pickett drilled a left shot outside the box that found the upper left corner of the net, with an assist from Joelle Anderson. Jordan Silkowitz noted three rescues.
