Ohio State makes coordinator Matt Patricia, Brian Hartline Official

The national champion Ohio State made the appointments of the defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and the offensive coordinator Brian Hartline official on Thursday.

Coach Ryan Day announced them as a replacement for Jim Knowles, as Penn State made the highest paid defensive coordinator in the nation and for OC Chip Kelly.

Kelly is now filling that role with the staff on the new head coach Pete Carroll with Las Vegas Raiders.

Patricia, 50, won three Super Bowls on the New England Patriots staff, where he spent 16 seasons. He was also head coach for Detroit Lions (2018-20).

Ohio State also announced the employment of Tyler Bowen, 35, as an offensive line trainer and driving coordinator. He last served as an offensive coordinator and Quarterbacks coach at Virginia Tech.

In other staff movements, Tim Walton, 53, was promoted to co-defensive coordinator, secondary and cornerback coaches and Keenan Bailey to co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.
