Edmonton Oiler’s defender Darnell Nurse got a game with a game for her cross check on Monday to the head of Los Angeles Kings forward Quinton Byfield.
The penalty was issued Tuesday by the NHL Department of Player Safety after it had a hearing with Byfield.
The nurse will miss Edmonton’s final in the regular season on the road to San Jose Sharks on Wednesday-a competition that will have no significance for the final position. Oilers and Kings are set to square for the fourth season in a row in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs.
The nurse lowered Boom at Byfield with 5:24 remaining in the second period on Monday. The kings continued to pass the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Division with a 5-0 victory against Oilers at Rogers Place.
The nurse was whistled in a five -minute major penalty for crossing control and an error in the game for the Hiten at Byfield, who did not return to the competition.
“No update,” said Kings coach Jim Hiller about Byfield’s condition. “He couldn’t end, that’s all. It doesn’t matter how I saw it.”
The NHL Department of Player Safety, in its video explaining the suspension, stated that the nurse made “the decision to deliver a deliberate cross control that makes the main contact on an opponent lying on the ice and was delivered with the necessary force for supplementary discipline.
“Although we agree with the claim that this cross -control is not delivered with exceptional force, it is only because of the fact that this incident does not meet with much harder discipline.”
The nurse, 30, has registered 33 points (five goals, 28 assists) in 76 matches this season.
Byfield, 22, scored a power-play goal during the first period to increase its score a total of 54 (23 goals, 31 assists) in 80 matches this season.
