Oklahoma State will look for her first Big 12 winning streak of the season as it goes up against TCU on Wednesday in Fort Worth, Texas.
The cowboys (12-11, 4-8 Big 12) hit the visit Arizona State 86-73 on Sunday behind a well-balanced score. Jamyron Keller scored 14 points to lead six Oklahoma State players in double numbers.
“I would like to think that we are building some speed because we have won two of our last three matches,” said Oklahoma State coach Steve Lutz. “We should have an exciting game at TCU, but we learned many things (Sunday) that we have to clean up.”
Of the six players in Oklahoma State who made double numbers against the Sun Devils, three came from the bench, including Brandon Newman, who took up 10 points and eight returns.
Sixth man Marchelus Avery leads Oklahoma State in points at 12.3 points per match and is second in assists at 4.6 per competition.
“We have eight, nine or ten guys who can all go,” Newman said. “We did a good job of sharing the ball (Sunday). We had 16 assists on 28 made pictures. When you see things like that in the box at the end of the game you have to be quite happy about it.”
TCU (12-11, 5-7 Big 12) had its two-game winning row snapped by a loss of 82-52 at then no. 8 Iowa State on Saturday. Horned Frogs did not have a single player in double numbers, as Vasean Allette and Trazarien White were the leaders at nine points per piece.
Noah Reynolds leads TCU in points at 12.5 points per match.
Horned Frogs coach Jamie Dixon, who gave nine players at least 15 minutes of action against the cyclones, is looking to keep the team fresh down in the route.
“I was worried that we were playing Wednesday night and had a late finish,” Dixon said. “We took Thursday because I thought we were exhausted. With the quick turn and 11 o’clock on Saturday (Cyclones) sat there and was ready for us.”
