Ortikia Mediterranean Grill, the Greek site at Green Valley Ranch, which is ranked among the best restaurants to open in Las Vegas 2024, is closed after less than a year, Las Vegas Review-Journal has learned. Ortikia’s last night for service is expected to be in the coming weeks.
Employees were informed on Wednesday about the closing and was asked to apply for other positions with station scarves, says a representative of the company. Ortikia was part of Station Partnership with Blue Ribbon Restaurants, founded in 1992 in New York City by chefs Bruce and Eric Bromberg.
Station has “reached a mutual agreement with Blue Ribbon restaurants to close Ortikia Mediterranean Grill at Green Valley Ranch Resort Spa & Casino. We are deeply grateful for the team on Ortikia’s contribution to our resort and the memorable food experiences they gave.
“We will continue our strong partnership with Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill and remain committed to delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests,” said Ken Janssen, vice president and head of Green Valley Ranch, in a statement to RJ.
No word about compensation
Ortikia (“quail” in Greek) opened for significant bucks on June 3, with its sweeping open kitchen with a live fire grill and rotisserie, a wood burning oven, a display of chilled fresh seafood and a dramatic copper hood that monitors the action.
Over the past year, Ortikia also received praise for dishes such as creamy Taramosalata swept over hot pita, roasted garlic halloumi mingling and chewing, shrimp à la Greque punchy with garlic, outstanding roasted chicken and grilled dorade simply prepared with lemon, caps and olive oil.
The restaurant, outside the casino floor, has room for about 170, with a bar and lounge, elevated banquets that deliver views to the dining room and the kitchen, branched global chandeliers, a colorful mural that includes a quail and an octopus and a curved roof that remembers Greek roofs.
On the question of the reasons for the closure and what, if anything, it is planned to replace Ortikia, the representative said: “We look forward to sharing further details in the near future.”
