New England is back in the top five for the second draft in a row after a distance of 15 years between the top-10 elections ended with the third overall Pick Drake Maye 2024.
With the Quarterback position that is apparently locked down, all patriots must do … figure out almost everything else.
Mike Vrabel was hired and changes are on the way for the patriots with a third head coach for three seasons after a 3-14 finish in Jerod Mayo’s only season at the helm.
Some plan changes are predictable and there are talented attitudes in place outside Maye.
New England also deliberately spent rolling in defensive tackle Milton Williams (Eagles), the broad recipient Stefon Diggs (Texans), Cornerback Carlton Davis (Lions), right tackle Morgan Moses (Jets), inside Linebacker Robert Spillane (Raiders) and outside Linebacker Harold Harold
Diggs recovers from a broken ACL and the running game flatted late in the 2024 season. Additional players on each side of the ball and help in the trenches are the best articles left on the team’s shopping list that goes into the draft.
The fight for owner Robert Kraft and Vrabel trusts that Eliot Wolf will make the right call after whiffing on each draft Maye in its first draft in April last year.
-Team needs
Left tackling: Finding Maye Hans Matt Light (Tom Brady’s Ultra-Pale left tackle for five New England Super Bowls) should be the first business order, no matter how dedicated wolf is to follow the best player available mantra in the draft.
Outside Linebacker: New England traded away Matthew Judon – and holds the 77th election in this year’s draft in return – and then only had 28 total sacks last season. The patriots’ opponents had 51. Landry went back to Vrabel as a capable pass Rusher but he is not a player as opponent is worried about because of his speed or electric first steps.
Tight End: Josh McDaniels is back (again) as offensive coordinator and his preference for a two-tight final base form would require a sidekick for veteran Hunter Henry, as a band for the team with 66 receptions in 2024.
