Pittsburgh Penguins Superstar Captain Sidney Crosby will miss his first game in almost three years when he sits out a road game on Friday against the New York Rangers host.

Crosby, who is breastfeeding an upper body injury, missed two straight training sessions before joining his teammates on the ice for Morning Skate on Friday.

“Right now we only take it one day at a time,” said Penguins coach Mike Sullivan Friday. “He will not play tonight. Obviously he is on the ice that participates in morning skates that are encouraging from our point of view.”

The Penguins will visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night before taking a break for the four nations’ face off. They will resume the game February 22 against Washington Capitals.

Crosby, 37, last missed a game on April 7, 2022, also against Rangers, due to a disease.

The twice Hart Trophy receiver seemed to damage his left arm or shoulder after colliding with New Jersey Devil’s defender Luke Hughes and forward Erik Haula halfway through the third period of Pittsburgh’s 3-2 Shootout loss on Tuesday.

Crosby has team -leading total in assists (41) and points (58) in 55 matches this season.

He is in his 20th season with Penguins. He has 609 career goals and ranked ninth all the time with 1,654 points.

On Friday, Pittsburgh also recalled forward Emil Bemstrom from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton from the American Hockey League.

Bemstrom, 25, has 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) in 37 matches with the AHL club this season.
