Penn State All-America Edge Rusher Abdul Carter Mullar If one is to have surgery after testing revealed that he is dealing with a stress reaction in his right foot, said agent Drew Rosenhaus late on Wednesday evening.
“There are mixed opinions if he needs surgery, and we will figure it out in the near future,” Rosenhaus said of Carter, which is the potential No. 1 Overall election in the 2025 NFL draft in April.
Rosenhaus said Carter has two options.
He could either have preventive surgery and get a screw into his right foot, with the result as a return to run in about eight weeks.
Or he could circumvent surgery and train on his pro -day in Penn State on March 28.
“Anyway, in the worst case, we do not expect this to affect where he is prepared,” Rosenhaus said. “After visiting teams this week, I think he will be the total choice.”
The news came out hours after Carter said he felt it was “very realistic” that he would be the overall choice of the draft.
“I feel like I’m the best player in the country. The best player should be selected No. 1,” he said.
Carter does not work at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week because he is still recovering from a shoulder injury that suffered late last season.
Carter was injured in Nittany Lions 31-14 victory over Boise State in the College Football Playoff quarter final on December 31, and he played through the damage when Notre Dame reduced Penn State 27-24 in a semi-final game on January 9.
A consensus All-America-Surval and this year’s Big Ten Defensive Player 2024 had 68 tackles, including 23.5 for loss to lead FBS, plus 12 sacks and two forced fumble in 16 matches.
Carter, a former linebacker who moved this season to defensive end, had 172 careers tackles – 41 for loss – along with 23 bags and five forced fumble in 42 matches for Penn State in the last three seasons.
