Rapids Grab Lead on LAFC in Concacaf Champions Cup

Djordje Mihailovic did twice when Colorado Rapids got a 2-1 victory over Los Angeles FC on Tuesday in Commerce City, Colo., In the first stage of an opening round Concacaf Champions Cup Series.

LAFC halved its deficit on a goal from Aaron Long in the 86th minute of a competition played under the free conditions.

The second part of the total target series will be played on February 25 in Los Angeles. The winner will go ahead to oppose the Columbus crew in the round of 16.

In this year’s first match for both sides, Mihailovic opened the point with a penalty kick in the 48th minute after Kevin Cabral pulled a foul in the 18-yard box.

Colorado doubled the lead when Mihailovic hammered a 30-farm free kick in the upper left corner.

In the late, LAFC’s Denis Bouanga delivered a cross into the box that went home for a long time.

Rapids goalkeeper Zack Steffen made six rescues, while the LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris stopped two shots.
