Boston Red Sox Right Hander Lucas Giolito will start the season on the 15-day injured list with a left Hamstringstam, confirmed manager Alex Cora on Thursday.
Giolito, 30, had an MRI on Wednesday after leaving Tuesday’s spring training start against Philadelphia Phillies after an inning.
Giolito signed a two -year, $ 38.5 million contract with Red Sox in January 2024 but missed the entire last season with an elbow injury.
Giolito is an all-star with Chicago White Sox 2019 and is 61-62 with a 4.43 era in 180 matches (178 starts) with Washington National (2016), White Sox (2017-23), Los Angeles Angels (2023) and Cleveland Guardians (2023).
His loss comes just two days after Cora announced that right hand Brayan Bello, last year’s starting day starts, will not be ready for the beginning of the season because of the Axel’s tenderness. Right -hander Kutter Crawford is currently unavailable due to a knee injury.
“We will be tested immediately,” Cora said Thursday.
Red Sox opens the season on the road with a four-game series against Texas Rangers from March 27-30.
The remaining healthy members of Boston’s projected rotation include the left hand Garrett Crochet and right -wing trader Walker Buehler and Tanner Huck.
