Petr Mrazek made 18 rescues for his first suspension of the season and the host Detroit Red Wings dropped Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The rookie defender Albert Johansson scored his second career goal. Lucas Raymond and Marco Kasper also scored Red Wings, who had lost seven of their previous eight matches. Mrazek made his third start since he was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Ilya Samsonov made 24 rescues for Golden Knights, which has lost four of their last five matches. They finished a four-match road trip with 1-1-2 brand. Vegas gave up a band goal with 14 seconds left and lost a shootout at Buffalo on Saturday afternoon.
Detroit had an early Power game but did not get a shot on goal during the men’s advantage. The red wings had an 8-5 advantage in shots on target during the opening period but none of the sides could break through.
A disturbance penalty against Detroit’s Michael Rasmussen and a rough conversation against Samsonov resulted in a 4-on-4 early in the second period. The open ice did not end the deadlock.
Johansson made a nice move at 7:58 in the second period. He took a pass from Vladimir Tarasenko and went over the right circle. When Samsonov dropped out of his network, Johansson went patiently around him and deposited the puck in the goal post. JT Compher picked up the other assistant.
Detroit had another Power game late in the period when Alex Pietrangelo was whistled to avoid but could not add his lead.
Raymond finished a 10-game target dryer at 4:51 of the third when he went into the track and shot a shot over Samsonov’s glove. Elmer Soderblom was credited with an assist at Raymond’s 23rd goal this season.
Kasper made it 3-0 with 8:46 while he did an Erik Gustafsson feed. Patrick Kane also picked up an assist at Kaspers 13th goal.
Detroit, who is trying to get back to the Eastern Conference Wild Card Race, plays its next four matches on the road, including an re -match with Vegas on Saturday.
