Hawaii approached to potentially legalize online sports games, after House Bill in 1308 passed the state’s Senate, several stores reported on Wednesday.
The bill has led to a lot of debate, but has continued to march against becoming a law. The Senate voted 15-10 to approve a changed version of the bill on Tuesday, with four of the votes raised “with reservations.”
These amendments included operator restrictions, taxation devoted to responsible gaming initiatives and payment/fines per casino reports.
That outlet also described estimates of tax revenue may have been inflated by lobbyists, as quoted figures were higher than the income taken in states with larger populations.
Betmgm and Draftkings, among other things, testified in favor of the bill.
In order for the bill to become a state law, HB 1308 must still pass Hawaii’s House of Representatives and then signed in law by Governor Josh Green. Observers are unclear at Green’s preferences if the bill lands on their desk.
Hawaii would be an unusual circumstance, as the state would enter the game regulation process with an inexperienced regulator and no existing game frame to speak of, by reporting from Igamingbusiness.com.
Thirty-four states have already legalized online sports games, along with the District of Columbia, according to the American Gaming Association. Forty states have some kind of legal sports game from February 27.
