The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly wanting to sign Sam Darnold but will not use the franchise company to retain him, several media reported on Monday.

The deadline for team to use the franchise company is Tuesday at 16. If the Vikings were to use the franchise company at Darnold, his salary would be a guaranteed $ 40.2 million for the coming season.

The Vikings and Darnold reportedly remain in discussions about a possible contract.

Darnold, 27, landed in Minnesota last winter on a year’s free agent agreement, projected as Vikings Interims Quarterback, especially after the team then used a first round on QB JJ McCarthy.

Darnold won the Quarterback job in training camp, during which McCarthy suffered a seasonal right knee injury. During the regular season, Darnold turned out to be a revelation, which led the Vikings to a record of 14-3 while completing 66.2 percent of his passports for 4,319 meters and 35 touchdowns, all career heights. He was intercepted 12 times.

The surprise season received Darnold a Pro Bowl selection, and he finished 10th place in the MVP vote. The Vikings lost 27-9 to Los Angeles Rams in a first playoff game.

Selected third total of Jets in the 2018 draft from Southern California, Darnold had a record of 13-25 as starters for three years in New York. He compiled an 8-9 record for Carolina Panthers 2011 and ’22 combined and then saw limited measures as a backup for San Francisco 49ers 2023.

Overall, Darnold has a record of 35-38 as a start. In 83 NFL games (73 starts) he has joined 61.2 percent of his passes of 16,383 meters with 98 touchdowns and 68 intercepts.
