Reports: UNLV will employ ex-ga. Technical coach Josh Pastner

Former Georgia Tech and Memphi’s basketball coach Josh Pastner will be hired as new head coach at UNLV, several media reported on Monday.

According to ESPN, Pastner accepted a five -year contract offer.

Claimed by Georgia Tech in March 2023 after Yellow Jacket’s second losing season in a row, pastner spent the last two seasons as basketball analysts on television.

“I’ve loved to do the TV, but I want to train again,” he told Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week. “But I want to make sure that is the right opportunity for me and the school feels that it is the right opportunity for them. I hope there will be an opportunity.”

Pastner, 47, compiled a record of 109-114 in seven seasons at Georgia Tech, from 2016-17. He led the yellow jackets to the NCAA tournament only once, when they fell in the first round in 2021.

Before that, Pastner logged a mark of 167-73 at Memphis 2009-10 to 2015-16. The tigers reached the NCAA tournament four times during its term and lost twice in the first round and twice in the second round.

He also had Stints as assistant coach at his Alma Mater, Arizona and Memphis. As once on a beginner, a pastner was part of Arizona NCAA-winning page in 1997.

UNLV fired coach Kevin Kruger on March 15 at the end of a season 18-15 which ended with a defeat in the Mountain West Tournament Quarter finals. Kruger was at work for four seasons and logged a record of 76-55.
