Sean Miller leaves Xavier to take over as head coach at Texas, according to several reports on Monday.
Miller, 56, was in his second stint at Xavier and took the musketeers to the NCAA tournament this season. After winning their first four match against Longhorn’s lost 86-80, 11th Seeded Xavier seed 86-73 to No. 6 Illinois in the first round.
During his eight seasons at Xavier (2004-09, 2002-23) and 12 seasons in Arizona (2009-21), Miller has a career record of 487-196.
His team has made 13 NCAA tournaments with a 22-13 record.
He would replace Rodney Terry, who was fired on Sunday after a record of 62-37 and three NCAA tournaments for three seasons since he took over from Chris Beard on interim base in 2022. He led Longhorns to Elite eight 2023, but they could not duplicate the success.
Texas ended the 19-16 season in total, 6-12 and in 13th place in its first season in Southeastern Conference.
The musketeers were 22-12 (13-7 Big East).
Miller was dismissed from Arizona after Wildcats missed the NCAA tournament in 2021 and in the middle of an investigation of the program. Arizona was accused of five levels in rules.
As an assistant coach, Miler worked at Miami (Ohio), Pitt, North Carolina State and Xavier before being appointed to train the muskets after Thad’s mat.
