Young Royals star Edvin Ryding joined Omar Rudberg on stage for Pop Star’s Landmark heading show at O2 Shepherd’s Bush on Wednesday evening.
Rudberg took to the prestigious 2000 capacity site in western London just three months after playing a sold out show to 1,200 fans in heaven. The content of the fantasy tour every night is familiar, but as if possible, the 26-year-old has even more swinging about him at Shepherd’s Bush.
The queue of fans who are snapping around the arena in front of the doors is quite something to see for an artist who is still asleep as one of POP’s most exciting names. It may be due to the focus on his actors in the Netflix hit, but as the crowds grow in the rapid time, it is clear that the world is starting to capture.
Rudberg opens on the tongue “Bye bye” and beats a pose with his figure that throws a highest shower over the walls of the arena. There is some time for breath when he laughs into ‘yo dije ouff’. The 2021 hit comes to life with a vibe of Troye Sivan before he is mashed with Cardi B and asked Bunny Hit ‘I Like It’.
What is impressive about the Omar Rudberg project is that all the star’s inspiration and references are clear to hear, but the songwriter stays in their own lane. There are moments of heavy Swedish pop, reggaetón, love ballads and even a cover of Rihanna’s “rude boy” in a busy one hour set.
The highlight of the night comes when Young Royal’s co-star Ryding surprises the singer on stage for ‘Simon’s Song’, taken from that Netflix show. The scream around Shepherd’s Bush is certainly as high as previous Headliners Billie Eilish, Beyonce and Adele were greeted.
There was already a feeling of magic for Rudberg’s biggest headline show so far and it is cemented by Ryding Como. However, the real takeaway from the night is still an artist who seems to do everything.
The latest single “I’m Not a Boy” comes with greatness over a rising choir and “In the Sunrise” gets an extra Oomph in a reworked live version. When Rudberg’s top is off for the brand ‘Mi Casa Su Casa’, the arena is at a fever pitch.
The night ends on swooning ‘sabotage’, perhaps the singer’s most impressive piece of songwriting so far. Wednesday evening at Shepherd’s Bush is a celebration of Omar Rudberg trip to this point, but it is clear that things are only getting bigger.
