The southeastern conference will earn a huge $ 70 million payout from the NCAA tournament after sending a record 14 of its 16 schools to the big dance.

Two of these programs, No. 1 seeds Auburn and Florida, are still alive and will meet in Final Four on Saturday in San Antonio.

NCAA pays conferences a “unit” – worth about $ 2 million each through Sportico’s calculations – for each game their members play in the tournament. SEC will play 35 matches before Monday’s final and earn 35 units to get to the estimate of $ 70 million.

It breaks the previous record of 25 units that the Atlantic Conference won in 2016.

Big Ten earned 21 units ($ 42 million) during this year’s tournament and Big 12 finished third with 20 units ($ 20 million). Big East and ACC were next with nine units each ($ 18 million).

“In Sec, we believe that the financial results follow the underlying work, and we remain laser -focused on our work,” Sec -Associated Commissioner for Men’s Basket, Garth Glissman, told Front Office Sports.

Revenue is distributed to conferences over six years.

No. 1 Seed Duke and Houston meet in the second national semi -final on Saturday, with the winners who played for the national championship on Monday evening.
