Seth Jarvis published two goals and two assists when Carolina Hurricanes avoided a seasonal four-game losing line by blowing past Utah Hockey Club in a 7-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Raleigh, N
Karolinas Sebastian Aho had two goals and one assist, Jalen Chatfield noted one goal and one assist, Jordan Martinook and Jack Roslovic added late goals and Andrei Svechnikov and Jackson Blake made two assists each. Pyotr Kchetkov made 36 rescues to secure his 20th victory during the season.
Clayton Keller scored two goals and Josh Doan had a goal for Utah, which never led. Karel Vejmelka collected 31 rescues.
Hurricanes gained a steady strength, on a power play and short hand in a four-goal second period, which started with the team bound at 1.
Jarvis scored the first goal 6:25 into the period. A few minutes later, Aho Vejmelka’s incorrect clearing pass intercepted and got a move to push into an open network for a 3-1 lead.
Utah’s Keller noted an unassisted goal to reduce the gap to 3-2.
With Brent Burns in the penalty box too rough, Jarvis chased down a puck along the boards and transferred to Aho, which converted for the short-handed goal and a 4-2 edge with 5:46 to play in the other. Aho has done in six of the last nine matches.
Keller’s goal from the third period gives him a team-high 20 for the season.
Before the second period Flurry held the hurricanes a 16-8 edge in the first period.
Chatfield went on a 2-against-1 break with Jordan Staal and delivered the goal at 10:09 in the first period. It ended Chatfield’s 15 game distance without goals.
Doan’s first goal in 12 matches came with 2:25 to play during the opening period on a Power Play.
Carolina forward Mikko Rantanen, which was recently acquired from Colorado, missed the game with a lower bodily injury. He has a goal and an assist in six matches since he joined the team.
It marked the final game for Hurricanes before a two-week termination for the Face of the Four Nations, while Utah visits Washington on the Sunday before his break.
