Indianapolis – South Carolina Safety Nick Emmanwori stands out for his size until you see him running.
The Emmanwori high school moved to defensive back, is one of the best athletes on the NFL scouting combination based on his qualities and film. In a matchups-win-game League, Emmanwori is the definition of hybrid defender, although there is no apple-to-apple comparison with 6-foot-3, 223-pound.
“I’m a bigger guy and I can run. I’m not afraid to go and do tackles, not afraid to cover any card space (wide recipient), go cover tight ends,” Emmanwori said. “I only use my size to my advantage.”
He said he feels “excited” to show off his athletics and “sweet feet” in the field and predicted 40 times in the “4.3’s” at the combine. He said his footwork is polished from his early days as a cornerback. Of his four interception last season, two were returned for touchdowns.
“My footwork is probably the best of this security class. I don’t think you have ever seen a security like me. A security that I have not entered this league for a long time with my size, my speed, my ability,” said Emmanwori Thursday.
Emmanwori said his skills are a combination of collateral Kyle Hamilton (Baltimore Ravens), Antoine Winfield Jr. (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Derwin James (Los Angeles Chargers) and Grant Delpit (Cleveland Browns).
He strives to be the best security selected in 2025 with the Sec-Mot. Malaki Starks (Georgia) and Notre Dame All-American Xavier Watts. Watts delay its athletic testing for Notre Dame Pro Day due to the football year’s extending length at the end of January.
Emmanwori said it would be a “scary” situation for the NFL if he was prepared by the ravens to play next to Hamilton because of their versatility as “Swiss army knives.”
