Spencer Torkelson had a two-run double and the values Detroit Tigers thumped the sinking Kansas City Royals 7-3 on Friday night.
Riley Greene had two hits, got two runs and hit another, while Andy Ibanez met a solo -female. Tomas Nido added three hits and one RBI.
Right trader Jackson Jobe (2-0) gave up a run of five hits and two walks with five strikes in five rounds to gather the victory. Tommy Kahnle got the last two outs with the bases loaded for his fourth rescue.
Vinnie Pasquantino drove in two runs and made the other for Kansas City, who has lost five straight.
Royal Starter Cole Ragans (1-1) gave up five runs and six hits in four plus ins. The left hand also went three while he recorded eight strikes. Reliever Lucas Erceg was removed in the seventh after being hit in the right leg by a comeback by Greene.
Royals hit first. Bobby Witt Jr. struck a one-out double to the left and scored on Pasquantinos double down the right field line.
The tigers tied it at the bottom of the other. Torkelson pulled a lead walk and moved to others on a wild pitch. Ragans knocked out the next two strokes, but Nido’s soft single got Torkelson.
Ibanez put the tigers on top with his second Homer of the season and hit a quick ball from Raganer over the left center wall.
Detroit extended its lead to 5-1 at the bottom of the fifth. The Justyn-Henry Malloy drew a lead walk and moved to others at Gleyber Torres single. Greene then ripped a single to the right to knock in Malloy.
John Schreiber replaced Ragans and gave up an RBI single to pinch Hitter Trey Sweeney. Greene then scored when Torkelson bounced into a double game.
Two-out singles of Greene and Sweeney preceded Torkelson’s two-run, double to remaining Angel Zerpa on seventh.
Kansas City loaded the bases in eighth on Salvador Perez’s double and two walks. John Brebbia escaped the jam with a strike and popout.
Pasquantino had an RBI single in the ninth. With the bases loaded, Kahnle went the first batter he met to get a new run before he got a strike and a lineout to finish the game.
