Three Holloman received a career pile of 20 points and No. 8 Michigan State practically led from beginning to end in a victory 79-62 over No. 17 Michigan at East Lansing on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans (26-5 in total, 17-3 Big Ten), who dressed the Big Ten regular season title in their previous victory in Iowa, expanded their winning line to seven matches on the way into the conference tournament.
Jase Richardson delivered 18 points for Michigan State, which led by as much as 25 points. Jaden Akins added 11 points, and Jaxon Kohler chipped in nine.
Vladislav Goldin led Michigan (22-9, 14-6) with 29 points, and Danny Wolf contributed 18 points and 13 returns. Wolverines made only three of 24 3-point attempts while losing their third straight game.
An early 12-1 run gave Michigan State a lead of 20-6. Holloman had two baskets during that route, including a 3-pointer, and Akins also struck a shot beyond the bow.
Nimari Burnett ended that run with a 3-pointer. The Spartans had an 8-0 driving to stretch their lead to 33-15 when Holloman and Richardson met 3-points after Michigan turnover.
A Richardson can with 1:48 left in half pressed the benefit to 20. Kohler had a can from an Akins steal and assist, and Holloman dropped another 3-pointer. Burnett thumped for Halvan’s final score, but Michigan still beat at the break, 50-28.
In half, the Spartans received 18 points from Wolverine’s 11 sales. Michigan State also made seven 3 points out of 18 attempts. Holloman and Richardson each had 11 points, while Goldin got half of Michigan’s points.
Richardson scored the first score in the second half on a free throw. Spartan lead fluctuated between 21 and 25 points until Wolverines got 14 unanswered points. Goldin got seven points below that span and Wolf made five.
Richardson finished Michigan State to dry with a 3-pointer to make it 64-50. Wolverines never got closer than 12 points again.
