Timo Meier made the possible game winner when visiting New Jersey Devils defeated Utah Hockey Club 3-1 on Saturday night in Salt Lake City.
Nico Hischier and Curtis Lazar also scored for the devils, which avoided a second loss in a row and improved to 6-5-0 in the last 11.
With the victory, New Jersey is 18-12-2 on the road this season and moved into a tie with Carolina Hurricanes for the second seed in the Metropolitan Division.
Nico Daws made 24 rescues for his third victory in the season.
Mikhail Sergachev scored the lone goal for Utah, who saw his three-match victory that was snapped in the loss. Utah Hockey Club is now 6-4-2 in the last 12 matches.
Karel Vejmelka stopped 26 shots in the loss.
New Jersey exceeded Utah 9-7 during the opening period and led 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Hischier opened the score at 9:34 in the first period and put home rebound from Luke Hughe’s score for his 25th season. The goal was the 400th career point for Devils Captain.
Utah banded it 1-1 when Sergichev one-timed a backhand feed from Liam O’Brien for his 11th season at 10:03 in the middle frame and snapped a seven game drought.
Meier restored the devil lead 14 seconds into the third period and snapped a shot far past Vejmelka for his 16th season and finished an eight-game drought.
New Jersey took a two -goal lead at 12:44 by the third when Lazar put a wrist shot in Shortside Past Vejmelka for her second goal of the season and only since October 25.
With his assist on the goal, Jack Hughes expanded his franchise best road point dash to 12 matches. Hughes has a team -leading 70 points in 61 matches this season.
Saturday was the second and last meeting this season between New Jersey and Utah. The host devils dropped Utah 3-0 on October 14.
