Twins Eye First Win of ’25, Open Series on White Sox

The Minnesota Twins Pitcher Chris Paddack (20) throws during a spring training game against Colorado Rockies at Lee Health Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Fla., Tuesday 25 March 2025.

After a terrible season-opening series, the visiting Minnesota Twins will look to win their first victory in the Monday afternoon season when they open a three-game series at Chicago White Sox.

Minnesota, which ended a disappointing season 2024 with four losses in a row, continued its subpar game in the first series in 2025. The twins were swept by the host St. Louis Cardinals and surpassed 19-6 in the three defeats.

Byron Buxton’s first Inning RBI single on Sunday gave Minnesota its only leadership of the series, before Startbiley Ober allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 rounds to puncture the team’s tough start.

Despite an unfortunate first series, Minnesota Manager Rocco Baldelli believes that the law on averages will even come out, especially at the plate.

“Many of the balls we met on the barrel, they made diving plays on the entire series. It won’t continue,” Baldelli said. “We just have to keep believing in what we are trying to do at the plate. Keep good bats, keep saving balls and things will work offensively.

“It was actually not a bad offensive screen. The runs did not come, but you can go up and down the lineup and say pretty positive things about more guys than not.”

The other Baseman Willi Castro was Minnesota’s offensive prominence of the series, notching four hits, including a home run, and three RBI.

Given that sparkle the twins on Monday, Chris Paddack gets his first 2025 start after going 5-3 with a 4.99 era in 17 starts for Minnesota last season.

Paddack, a 29-year-old right-wing dealer, has been successful against White Sox in two career species, including a 10-striking, seven-input speechless start against Chicago in April last year.

White Sox, who came out the worst season of any team since the New York Mets in 1962, enjoyed White Sox a home victory over the Los Angeles Angels before releasing the series after a couple of losses with a run.

Chicago exploded in eight runs on Thursday, but collected only two combined runs on Saturday and Sunday’s defeat. A bright place from White Sox’s perspective was a pitching staff who allowed only five runs in the series, an inspiring start after the club finished 28th with a 4.68 era 2024.

“We continued to fight,” said the first year White Sox manager Will Venable. “These guys have done a good job to keep working. … Our pitching keeps us there and we will have some chances here offensively.”

The purpose of continuing Chicago’s driving at Haugen, veteran Lefty Martin Perez will make his first White Sox start after signing a one year contract for one year, $ 5 million in January.

Perez, who turns 34 on Friday, went 5-6 with a 4.53 era in 26 starts last season, but improved after a mid-season trading from Pittsburgh Pirates to San Diego Padres, where he went 3-1 with a 3.46 era of 44 strikes in 52 rounds.

Perez is 0-4 with a 5.43 era in 13 career appearance (eight starts) against Minnesota.
