The team announced Tuesday at Iguodala’s 41th birthday.
Iguodala is the seventh player in the Warriors story who has taken up his number to the ceiling beam and joins Wilt Chamberlain, Chris Mullin, Nate Thurmond, Alvin Attles, Rick Barry and Tom Meschery.
6-foot-6 Swingman won four NBA titles with Warriors 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. He received the final MVP awards in the first championship series in a dynasty that will one day see teammates Stephen Curry, Kyy Thompson and Draymond Green Similar ways honored.
“Without these guys I wouldn’t be in this position,” said Iguodala, who retired in October 2023. “I think they understand how important I was. But obviously Steph, Kyy and Draymond, were just so unique in whom They are, it’s just a powerful formula.
During the NBA final 2015, he helped Warriors win three straight matches to overcome a 2-1 deficit against Cleveland Cavaliers. He was an average of 16.3 points, 5.8 returns, 4.0 assists and 1.3 steals in the series.
“Andre will go down as one of the smartest, sharpest and most unique and successful players ever wearing a Warriors uniform,” said Joe Lacob, Warriors Co-Executive chairman and CEO, in a statement. “We thought that all this could be true when we acquired him in 2013, but reality – four titles, six finals, a final MVP – even exceeded our wildest imagination.
“He was the perfect player and the person at the perfect time for our team, and the victim he made to come from the 2014 bench sent a message that he came here to help us do one thing: Win. The proof is in the ceiling beam and his number belongs to the banners that he helped us to raise. ”
Iguodala was an average of 11.3 points, 4.9 returns and 4.2 assists in 1,231 matches (784 starts) with Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat and Warriors. He made an all-star team with Philadelphia 2011-12 and chose two NBA all-defensive teams.
