Women’s NCAA Roundup: No. 2 TCU, No. 3 Notre Dame Advance

Madison Conner scored 23 points when TCU, the second seed in Birmingham 3 Regional of the NCAA Women’s Championship, moved off a slow start to beat No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson 73-51 on Friday afternoon in a first round in Fort Worth, Texas.

Horned Frogs (32-3), which reached the second round for the first time since 2006, will play either seventh seeds Louisville or 10-seeded Nebraska in the round of 32 on Sunday in Fort Worth.

TCU dragged off three after the first period but gathered to carry a lead of 35-27 into the break despite three important players shaking with foul problems. Horned Frogs extended his advantage to 52-35 and was up by 15 on the way to the last 10 minutes of the game.

The Sedona Prince added 16 points and 10 returns for TCU, while Hailey van Lith collected 13 points and seven assists and Agnes Emma-NNOPU got 10 points.

Teneisia Brown’s 18 points went Fairleigh Dickinson (29-4), Northeast Conference Champion. Ava Renninger added 12 points for the knights, which ended only 1 of 11 beyond the arch.

Chance Gray made all 15 of its points behind the 3-point line for Ohio State (26-6), which led by only five at half time. Cotie McMahon also had 15 points, Jaloni Cambridge added 12 and Ajae Petty here for 11.

Montana State Esmeralda Morales led all players with 20 points, while Natalie Picton added 12 for Bobcats (30-4).

No. 6 Michigan 80, No. 11 Iowa State 75

Michigan came by Iowa State behind 28 points from Jordan Hobbs and 16 from Olivia Olson in South Bend, Ind. Hobb’s preserved five 3 points in the victory and nine of Olson’s points came during the fourth quarter, including a jumper with 20 seconds left that pressed Wolverine’s lead to five points.

Michigan dragged by five at halftime and with three on the way to the last period before an Olson three-point game to start the quarter of the game at 56-56. Wolverines never dragged again when Greta Kampschroeder added 13 points, Mila Holloway got 12 and Syla Swords hit for 11. All Michigan points got points from its beginning five.

Audi Crooks led Iowa State (23-12) with 28 points while Arianna Jackson added 12 for Cyclones, who beat Princeton in a first four match on Wednesday to earn a place in 64-team tournament fields.
