Women’s NCAA Roundup: No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Ole Miss Win Openers

1-2 Pait Antoinette Vonleh and Jada Walker Bar on the 4th Seeded Baylor to a 73-60 victory Friday over 13-seeded Grand Canyon in the first round of the Spokane 1 region in NCAA Women’s Tournament in Waco, Texas.

Vonleh scored 25 points and grabbed a match high 11 returns before he foured, while Walker added 17 points and four assists. Yaya Felder contributed 12 points because the bears (28-7) hit 50 percent of their field target attempts and received a 44-33 rebounding advantage.

Trinity San Antonio poured a gaming high 27 points to put on Lopes (32-3) but was limited to 26 minutes due to foul problems. Laura Erikstrup added 11 for the Grand Canyon, which made only 23 out of 67 trials (34.3 percent) from the field.

Baylor beat 18-13 late in the first quarter but gathered to take a 31-28 edge at half time and steadily pulled away during the second half.

After the match, On3sports reported that the Grand Canyon coach Molly Miller resigned to take the same position in Arizona State.

Starr Jacobs and Kennedy Todd-Williams collected each double doubles when the rebels cruised a victory over the Cardinals in Waco, Texas.

Jacobs got 18 points and took 11 returns for the rebels (21-10), which led by as many as 29 points during the third quarter. Todd-Williams added 14 points and 11 boards, while Madison Scott chipped in 15 points.

Ole Miss received an advantage of 51-32 on the boards and turned 17 offensive Caromer into 22 other chance points. It also boasted a 46-28 advantage in color points. Ally Becki scored a gaming high 19 points for the Cardinals (27-8), while Lachelle Austin added 13 points and a team high eight returns.
