Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has become notorious for her parties.
In 2023, several social media videos showing firearms on Morant made two suspensions-one eight-game suspension in March and a 25-match suspension in June. Ever since then, he has been under a microscope for using gun hand gests during the celebration.
On April 1, Morant used the finger gun against the Golden State Warriors. He received a warning from the NBA the following day. On April 3, he took back the gesture and earned a fine of $ 75,000.
“I was not surprised,” Morant said about his latest fine. “Just to show people what pretty much has been clear over the past two years.”
Each time Morant blinks the finger guns, social media erupts. He apparently cannot learn his lesson – and the internet is extremely fascinated by it.
But during Thursday night’s loss to Minnesota Timberwolves, Morant broke out a new party – a grenade – instead of its typical machine gun.
“It’s my celebration now until someone else has problems with it, and I find another,” Morant said.
As you can expect, the grenade celebration became viral before the last summer. On the question of that after the match, Morant offered a deflection all the time.
“Listen, that’s not what you think it is. I take my words and I throw them out there and then I will block the noise – that’s what I do,” Morant said.
“So when you see me do it, that’s what I do. I say what I had to say to the world and block the noise in the middle of what comes back my way. That’s how it will be.”
You have to give it to Morant. This can be a small kind of genius. How can NBA fines or turn off a player for taking the words out of their mouths, throwing them out there and then blocking the noise? Seems innocent enough, right?
The celebration certainly looks like pulling the pin out of a grenade and launching it in the audience. After the match, the TNT crew was not impressed with more discoveries from Morant.
“He has a story that maybe he should leave the celebration where people can die alone,” Kenny Smith said.
“I know that a person is happy right now,” added Charles Barkley. “Taylor Jenkins doesn’t have to deal with this shit.”
