Cale Jacobsen and Nebraska seem to save some of their best basketball for last.

Cornhuskers (18-14) will try to continue to roll as they tip against Georgetown (18-15) in the quarter final in the first college basketball tournament Wednesday evening in Las Vegas.

The winner of Wednesday’s game goes on to Final Four, where it will meet either Butler or Boise State.

Jacobsen, a Walk-on Sophomore, would love to help keep Nebraska’s season alive. He got his coach’s praise after playing a season high 23 minutes in Cornhusker’s victory over Arizona State on Monday in the first round of the tournament.

High sports players finished with five assists and three steal to go with two points. Cornhuskers were plus-10 when he was in court.

“Cale knows every place on the floor, 1 to 5, offensive and defensively,” said Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg. “I thought he was the player in the game. I give him a lot of credit. He is the next guy a lot. He has had an incredible couple of weeks of exercise, and I had to get him out there, and it paid us for us.”

Hoiberg said that Jacobsen’s value also extended beyond a single -game performance.

“Works, never complains,” Hoiberg said. “Not only know our games but the other team’s game. He calls them from the bench. Kid will be one (heck) by a coach for a year.”

Georgetown coach Ed Cooley is also doing well with his players on their way into the quarter finals.

Cooley noticed the other guard Malik Mack after Hoyas hit the Washington State on Monday. Several Hoyas missed the game due to illness. Mack was originally expected to sit outside, but he chose to take the court.

Although he was ill, Mack ended with a career pile of 37 points-11 more than any other game this season-and made a career-high eight 3-points.

“Malik is not feeling well,” Cooley said after the match. “When you show that kind of struggle, … everything is possible. I’m really proud of him.”

Mack is one of four players who make two digits for Georgetown, although Thomas Sorber (14.5 ppg) is out for the season.

Micah Peavy leads Hoyas with 17.2 points per match, followed by Jayden Epps (12.8 ppg) and MACK (12.5 ppg).

Nebraska is led by the first team’s All-Big Ten Guard Brice Williams, as an average of 20.3 points. Juwan Gary (14.1) and Connor Essegian (10.6) are also on average in double -digit numbers.

Williams scored 30 points in Monday’s victory against Arizona State. It marked his fourth match with at least 30 points this season.

The show gave Williams 650 points this season, which moved him past Eric Piatkowski (646, 1993-94) for fourth place in points with a season in school history. The three best points of a season for Nebraska are James Palmer Jr. (708, 2018-19), Dave Hoppen (704, 1984-85) and Tyronn Lue (678, 1997-98).
